Catalyst-free upcycling of crosslinked polyethylene foams for CO2 capture

چکیده
Abstract Recycling of crosslinked plastics is an intractable challenge due to their very limited amenability mechanical reprocessing. While a variety chemical recycling methods have been recently reported, these systems primarily focus on deconstructing or depolymerizing monomers and liquid fuels, which subsequent use likely involves additional energy consumption greenhouse gas emission. In this work, we present simple, scalable, catalyst-free method for directly converting polyethylene (PE) foams into porous carbon materials. This process enabled by sulfonation-based crosslinking, allowing the conversion PE become efficient precursors, while retaining high porosity feature from foam precursors. Through two steps sulfonation carbonization, derived carbons contain relatively surface area sulfur-doped framework. As result, materials can exhibit CO 2 sorption capacity /N selectivity. work presents viable pathway address grand-scale environmental challenges plastic wastes emissions. Graphical abstract

Reducing CO2 emission and lowering the concentration of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere has quickly become one of the most urgent environmental issues. While a variety of technologies and methods have been developed, the separation of CO2 from gas streams is still a critical issue. Apart from establishing new techniques, the exploration of membrane materials with high separation performance ...
متن کاملWear of highly crosslinked polyethylene acetabular components
BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE Wear rates of highly crosslinked polyethylene (XLPE) acetabular components have varied considerably between different published studies. This variation is in part due to the different techniques used to measure wear and to the errors inherent in measuring the relatively low amounts of wear in XLPE bearings. We undertook a scoping review of studies that have examined the i...

متن کاملCarbon foams as catalyst supports for phenol photodegradation.
A carbon foam using coal tar pitch as precursor was prepared and investigated as support for titanium oxide for the photocatalytic degradation of phenol. The performance of the carbon foam/titania composite was compared to those of unsupported titania and other activated carbon composites from the literature. The photodegradation rate of phenol over the catalysts under UV illumination was fitte...
